Italian fintech Plino raises €650K to bring generative AI to SME financial planning

Plino, a Turin-based fintech startup, has raised €650,000 in funding to expand its generative AI-powered platform that helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) improve financial planning and analysis (FP&A).

The round attracted a diverse group of backers, including Techaround VC, Vento, Exor Ventures, Cariplo Factory, Berkeley SkyDeck, and zooga VC. The fresh capital will be used to accelerate product development and expand Plino’s reach across European SME markets.

Insight

Financial planning has traditionally been a pain point for SMEs, often relying on outdated spreadsheets and manual processes.

Plino is aiming to modernize this with generative AI models that can automate reporting, forecast scenarios, and provide strategic insights once reserved for large enterprises with dedicated finance teams.

This marks a significant step in making enterprise-grade financial intelligence accessible to smaller businesses, a segment that represents over 99% of companies in Europe.

Generative AI in Europe’s fintech wave

Generative AI adoption in Europe has accelerated dramatically in the past two years. While much of the attention has gone to consumer-facing tools (like AI copilots and chatbots), the enterprise applications of generative AI are gaining traction. Particularly in financial services, compliance, and operations.

Startups like Plino are tapping into a huge unmet need: SMEs don’t have the time or resources to hire CFO-level expertise, but they desperately need accurate, forward-looking financial models to weather market volatility. By embedding AI into FP&A, Plino isn’t just selling software. It’s offering decision-making leverage at scale.

In parallel, European investors are increasingly bullish on AI-native startups that target vertical markets such as healthcare, fintech, and logistics. This reflects a broader shift: the next AI wave in Europe is less about general-purpose tools and more about domain-specific intelligence.
